Healing hooves, happier hearts: rescuing, rehabilitating, and riding toward brighter lives
Our Mission
Sam and Socks Riding School & Sanctuary helps horses and people heal, grow, and thrive through four core commitments: connecting, caring, coaching, and building confidence.
Why we exist Many horses arrive at our sanctuary with trauma, neglect, or uncertainty. Many people—children, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and families—face isolation, anxiety, or lack of access to safe, meaningful relationships with animals. We bridge those gaps by creating a nurturing space where the needs of horses and humans are equal partners in healing.
What we do
Connecting: We facilitate gentle, consistent interactions between horses and people. Through supervised grooming, groundwork, and trail time, participants form trust-based relationships that benefit both species.
Caring: Our sanctuary provides medical care, rehabilitation, and lifelong homes for rescued horses. We also model compassionate animal stewardship and provide volunteer opportunities that teach humane care practices.
Coaching: Caring instructors deliver trauma-informed equine-assisted programs— horsemanship with feelings, life-skills groups, youth mentoring, and adaptive riding. Each program is tailored to meet emotional, physical, and developmental goals.
Building confidence: Small-group lessons, leadership exercises, and progressive horsemanship milestones help participants gain self-reliance, communication skills, and resilience. As riders and handlers grow, horses receive consistent leadership and purpose.
Impact
Restored horses: Rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed or retired with lifelong care. Veterinary services, nutrition plans, and enrichment reduce suffering and extend healthful lives.
Empowered people: Participants report reduced anxiety, improved social skills, and increased self-esteem. Veterans and individuals with disabilities gain adaptive skills; youth build responsibility and hope.
Community enrichment: Volunteer programs, educational workshops, and open-days promote humane treatment of animals and create inclusive community connections.
